There is so much happening in the assistive wearables space right now. Smart glasses, AI-powered captions and technology that is fundamentally changing how people experience the world.

But I think we need to take a moment to appreciate what this technology actually means to the people using it.

I came across a brilliant post from Hayden Daum, who is Deaf and recently tried the EVEN G2 smart glasses, which provide real-time captions.

Hayden shared how the glasses helped him understand words he would otherwise have missed at a drive-thru. Something many of us take for granted, but something that could make an enormous difference to someone’s independence and everyday experiences. This is what happens when innovation meets a genuine human need.

It’s not just another impressive AI feature, It’s about accessibility, independence, confidence and giving people greater freedom to interact with the world around them.

There are still challenges around accuracy, affordability and privacy, but the potential is extraordinary.

A huge thank you to Hayden for sharing his experience and reminding us of the human impact behind these innovations.

The real breakthrough isn’t that glasses can display captions. It’s what becomes possible for the person wearing them.
