How much money has Amazon left on the table by NOT doing this sooner?

Amazon just announced that short affiliate links will now automatically open directly in the

Amazon Shopping app on mobile.

This is an enormous win for the e-commerce ecosystem.

Think about how many times a customer clicks an Amazon link on their phone, gets redirected to a mobile browser instead of the app, and encounters unnecessary friction.

They're logged out. Their payment information isn't readily available. The shopping experience is clunkier.

And somewhere along the way, a sale is lost.

Amazon says this change could drive up to 2.5x higher conversion rates.

That's an extraordinary claim, but the logic makes perfect sense.

The fewer steps between discovering a product and clicking "Buy Now," the better.

As an Amazon seller, I see this as a win for everyone: influencers, affiliates, sellers, and Amazon itself.

My only question is: What took so long?

One important detail: This currently applies to short affiliate links (link.amazon/XXXXXX), not all Amazon links.

Sometimes the biggest improvements in e-commerce come from eliminating the smallest points of friction.

How much sales leakage has this one missing feature caused over the years?link.amazon/XXXXXX), not all Amazon links.
