Claude Code’s name makes it sound like a developer tool. The examples in Lenny Rachitsky’s collection tell a different story.

Drawing on more than 500 submissions, the article highlights 50 ways nontechnical people are using it. Examples include:

- Clearing storage and diagnosing a slow computer

- Renaming and sorting invoice files for taxes

- Synthesizing customer-call transcripts

- Turning voice notes into an article and social posts

- Creating a job description, hiring plan, interview plan, and rubric

A better mental model is “local AI operator”: an assistant that can work with files, folders, and connected tools, not just answer questions in a browser tab.

That access also creates risk. Start with a backed-up folder and a reversible task. Review proposed actions before execution, especially when files or sensitive information are involved.

You do not need to be a programmer. But you do need to understand what access you are granting.
