Almost six years ago, my husband and I moved back to Venezuela with an “unrealistic” dream: empezar a construir país.

When we were deciding where to echar raíces, we knew deep down that our values wouldn’t let us stay away much longer. The impact we wanted to make had to start from home. We owed it to the country that shaped us.

Today, on the first day of the Startup Venezuela Summit, that “unrealistic” dream started to feel real. Watching entrepreneurs, investors, operators, and so many inspiring people come together to talk about the future of Venezuela felt like an oasis after what has been, specially for my generation, a long and agonizing drought.

I’ve always been an optimist about my country. As a Venezuelan, I’ve always believed in the value of our people. But today I felt something closer to certainty: the Venezuela my daughters grow up in will, sooner rather than later, be the best place on Earth.

I can’t wait for Venezuela to become the country we deserve.
