Amazon is starting to KICK 3P SELLERS off certain brands?! šŸ‘€

This is one I’m definitely keeping an eye on.

Over the last few days, sellers in the US have started receiving some pretty brutal emails from Amazon.

Essentially:

This brand doesn’t wholesale its products.

You’re not the brand.

You can’t sell it anymore.

Amazon calls it No Wholesale Distribution (NWD).

If Amazon identifies a brand as selling directly to customers rather than distributing through wholesalers, distributors or third-party resellers, it can restrict who is allowed to list those products.

And the emails going out at the moment are pretty serious.

Affected sellers are being given around 15 days to:

Sell through the inventory.

Remove it from FBA.

Or delete the SKUs.

After that, Amazon says the listings can be removed and remaining FBA inventory could be disposed of at the seller’s cost.

Only sellers recognised with the Brand Representative role can continue selling the affected brands.

Which is VERY interesting.

Because one of the biggest frustrations we hear from brands on Amazon is:

ā€œWe don’t know who half these sellers are.ā€

You spend years cleaning up distribution.

Then some random seller finds stock somewhere, jumps onto the ASIN, undercuts by 40p and suddenly they’re sitting in your Buy Box šŸ˜‚

Historically, Amazon hasn’t exactly made controlling that easy.

NWD potentially changes that quite significantly for brands with genuinely closed distribution.

Amazon’s own documentation says it continuously monitors brands for signals that their distribution model has changed.

So this isn’t simply:

Brand clicks a button → ban all my resellers.

And I definitely wouldn’t start celebrating the death of the 3P reseller just yet šŸ˜‚

There are also brand owners currently reporting issues with Amazon correctly recognising their own Brand Representative status, so it looks like there are some wrinkles to iron out.

BUT…

If Amazon gets this right, this could be a pretty significant tool for brands that genuinely don’t wholesale their products.

Because there’s a huge difference between:

ā€œThis seller isn’t authorised by us.ā€

And:

ā€œThere should literally be NO legitimate wholesale stock of our brand available to resell.ā€

Amazon now appears increasingly willing to recognise that distinction.

For brands constantly fighting mystery Buy Box sellers…

I’d be watching NWD very closely. šŸ‘€
