Look at these three thumbnails. Can you name the brand?
Neither can your mobile shopper.
All three use beautiful, decorative botanical backgrounds designed to grab attention.
And all three score 0% Fail on RHINO glance readability. The brand name on the bottle is completely lost in the visual noise. This is what happens when teams optimise hero images solely for attention. Attention gets you noticed. Glance Readability gets you chosen. If a shopper cannot decode the 4Ws (Brand, Format, Variant, Size) in a fraction of a second on a 6-inch phone screen, that eye-catching visual is just decorative friction.
Beautiful. Engaging. Useless. Confusing. Frustrating.
GS1 mobile-ready standards exist for this exact reason:
Strip the clutter, maximise contrast, and make the critical text legible at thumbnail size. Catch these failures upstream before artwork sign-off.
Unreadable on a phone = Unbuyable on a phone.
Test your hero images with RHINO before you spend media budget driving traffic to a pack nobody can recognise.
