ChatGPT chose my piano. A marketplace got the sale.
My prompt: “I want to learn to play the piano. Give me a good option for learning that isn’t a crazy price.”
ChatGPT picked the model and Mercado Libre (Latin America’s Amazon) took the order. I never searched for a brand or clicked an ad.
That’s what GEO looks like from the buyer’s side. The AI builds the shortlist, and the sale goes to whichever channel shows the product with the best offer.
So the job is making your product read the same everywhere an AI or a shopper might find it: your Shopify store, Google Merchant Center, Amazon and other marketplaces, Meta’s catalog, your reviews.
In practice:
One source of truth for every product: name, model number, GTIN, specs and price.
Descriptions that say who it’s for and what it solves. A model can repeat “Great for beginners.” It can’t do anything with “Elevate your musical journey.”
The same title and core attributes on every channel. If your site says one thing and the marketplace says another, the model has less reason to trust either one.
Reviews that mention the use case, plus FAQs that answer what people actually ask.
Price and stock synced at least daily.
Adobe’s July 2026 data shows AI-referred visitors to US retail sites convert 60% better than other traffic. Most of them arrive already decided.
Now the important question: did you guess the song? And which movie is it from? 🎹
