My team lead hired someone without me.

I found out days later, from a coffee shop in Colombia.

> Three months running the agency from South America on a budget Dell

> Peru, Colombia, Patagonia — signal was optional

> Some weeks I did genuinely zero hours

> My team lead had run Amazon ads daily for 10 years

> He needed another ads manager, so he went and hired one

> I read the message when the wifi came back

My first reaction was mild panic. My second was that he'd picked better than I would have.

That's the whole thing, isn't it.

Everyone says they want a senior hire, then builds a job where nothing moves without them approving it.

If your Amazon person can't make a decision while you're in a dead zone, you didn't hire a senior operator.

You hired a pair of hands and a bloody bottleneck 😂
