When you trade in Russian energy, you don't just buy fuel — you buy the missiles.
As a Ukrainian psychologist, with our team at NGO Ukrainian Psychology Center THE SOUL, we work alongside trauma every single day. We walk through the quiet, agonizing aftermath when a strike tears through a residential bedroom in the dead of night. We grieve alongside our nation — for our friends, colleagues, teachers, and children, and for those brave brothers and sisters who gave everything for freedom and whose voices now belong only to memory.
This is where the true cost of commodity deals is realized: when capital purchases genocide.
For us in Ukraine, this is not a theoretical game of geopolitical chess or a simple matter of market supply. It forces us to look beyond the language of bargains and confront the fundamental choice between dignity and transaction. That is why watching sanctions lifted to funnel hundreds of millions of dollars back into the Russian energy sector hits so deeply.
Let us speak with the quiet, unyielding clarity of truth: every single dollar flowing into Russian oil and gas goes directly to fund Putin's military machine, murder and torture of our families and friends. It pays for the raw materials, the logistics, the drones, and the missiles targeted at civilian homes while families sleep. To reduce this systemic destruction to a "deal" or standard international business is a profound moral error. A peace built on financial concessions to an aggressor is not peace; it is subsidized cruelty.
When global decision-makers choose short-term convenience over fundamental human rights, they normalize aggression for the entire world. Blaming the victim for refusing to capitulate reverses basic moral logic and subverts international justice.
Many of us at our center were trained and mentored by extraordinary American colleagues. We love you, we respect you, and we hold those deep personal friendships close to our hearts. To our friends, partners, and allies across the United States who continue to stand with Ukraine through these years of trial: our gratitude to you remains boundless and unchanged. We know who you are, and we know that this transactional policy does not reflect the spirit or the DNA of your nation.
We ask for no pity, nor do we speak out of anger. We simply appeal to your principles and critical thinking.
We wish our friends in America the courage, wisdom, and strength to defend human dignity, hold fast to your democratic values, and guide your great country back to the moral foundation the world has always admired.
