A $31 perfume mist sold more units on Prime Big Deal Days day one than almost anything else on Amazon.
Numerator ranks items by units purchased. Sol de Janeiro's Cheirosa 62 Body Spray made the top five, next to disinfecting wipes and dish spray.
The 8 oz size dropped to $31.20, 20% off with strike through pricing. Good discount but not huge. Most items near it on the top deals page were 30% to 60% off. A red countdown timer does help create fomo though.
The mist has more than 50,000 ratings and 4.7 stars and an Amazon's Choice badge, and early holiday gift shopping adds demand on top.
But why this SKU, out of everything on sale?
It starts with the scent. Sol de Janeiro bottled the one Bum Bum Cream customers were obsessed with, so Cheirosa 62 had a following from day one.
The brand's current marketing push is behind a different product: the new Intense mist, fronted by Brazilian singer IZA in a global campaign shot in Rio.
On Amazon, the Intense version of the same scent sold at its full $34 while the classic carried the 20% off. The campaign may be lifting the whole line, though I haven't seen anything tying it to the sale.
The listing was ready too. It ranks second organically for the brand's own name. When I searched "Cheirosa perfume mist," Sol de Janeiro held the first two Sponsored Products spots, plus a banner with seven of its ASINs, while competing mists bid on the same search.
Sol de Janeiro ran one of the shallower discounts on the deals page and still made the top five.
On your last promotion, how many buyers already wanted your product before it went on sale?
Congrats to the team Sol de Janeiro. If you see this, what's your secret?
