There is an Amazon system that rejects main images when you upgrade them.

Even though you made this change because your new packaging looks better, Amazon still disagrees with that change.

You updated the front of the box, same formula, same contents, same GTIN, and the only thing you wanted was the new main image live on the ASIN.

Then the upload gets rejected, the listing flips to Suppressed, and it disappears from search while your inventory sits there waiting.

What made this case interesting is that Seller Central only shows a missing image, while the real decision is made elsewhere by a validation system that compares the new picture to the old one and reads a design refresh as a different product.

So uploading a better file doesnt help, because the file was never the problem.

I broke down how this case was handled in this weeks OSS Lab, including what we deliberately chose not to do, since a couple of the obvious moves tend to make this kind of rejection stickier.
