TikTok is turning product discovery into checkout — without making users leave the app.
The platform is rolling out two significant commerce features in the U.S.:
→ An AI shopping assistant that can answer questions about product details, sizing, shipping, availability, and purchasing.
→ Direct checkout with brands inside TikTok, separate from TikTok Shop.
The bigger story here isn’t just another AI assistant.
It’s the continued collapse of the traditional shopping funnel.
Discovery → Research → Consideration → Purchase
These used to happen across multiple platforms and websites. TikTok increasingly wants them to happen in one place.
And AI could become the layer connecting each step — helping consumers move from “I like this” to “I bought this” with significantly less friction.
TikTok is building the new capabilities with commerce and payments partners including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe.
For brands, this could make TikTok much more than an awareness or traffic channel. It could become a full-funnel commerce environment where content, AI-powered product guidance, and checkout sit side by side.
Social commerce is evolving quickly.
The interesting question is no longer just: “Where will consumers discover products?”
It’s: “Will they ever need to leave the platform to buy them?”
