AI search is quietly deleting your content.
Not ranking it lower.
Deleting it from the answer entirely.
Here's how it works.
In Google's blue links, the fourth page saying the same thing still ranks fourth.
It still gets a click.
In an AI answer, there is no position four.
The engine takes one fact from the first source.
Then pulls from the next source only for what it adds.
Say something already said, and you are cut before the reader sees a word.
Here's the part most teams haven't clocked:
"More comprehensive" is dead as a strategy.
Comprehensiveness is the cheapest thing on the internet now.
Rewording a competitor's page adds nothing. The AI reads meaning, not words, so a rewrite lands in the exact same spot as the original.
The only thing that earns a citation is information no one else has.
And almost nobody has it, because almost everyone publishes the same thing.
The same roundups. The same definitions. The same recycled advice.
Whole categories of the web sit directly on top of themselves.
But that's also the opening. You're already sitting on data no competitor can reproduce:
✅ Your own customer surveys, answering what your category argues about but never measured
✅ Your internal patterns and results, the trends only your systems can see
✅ Your original tests, turning claims everyone repeats but no one proves into real numbers
✅ The questions your buyers actually ask, in their own words, that no page answers
You don't always need to create new data.
Often you just need to publish what your work already generated.
No competitor can copy it, because it's yours by construction.
This isn't about writing more.
It's about being the source AI reaches for when it builds the answer.
The strategy is still yours. The data does the proving.
I've mapped the whole play into the infographic below 👇
A one-glance snapshot: find the gap, use the data you already own, publish it so AI can lift it.
Save it, or send it to whoever owns your content.
And if you want the full playbook, I've built a step-by-step Notion board.
Just let me know in the comments and I'll send you the link.
