Are you making it unnecessarily hard to GLANCE-READ your critical messages in your content?
Shoppers glance at an online pack or PDP carousel image for just 300 milliseconds before swiping.
In that window, contrast is binary.
A shopper either deciphers your text instantly, or they move on.
The problem starts upstream.
Designers craft both pack designs and even hero images (the derivative of them) on 27-inch high-resolution monitors in calibrated office lighting. Your online shoppers look at 20mm thumbnails on mobile phone screens while walking, watching TV or even wine tasting.
Who doesn't multitask on their mobile?
Where does your critical text score? (Do you test)
--------------------------------------
> Near impossible to glance read
> Hard to glance read
> Okay to glance read
> Easy to glance read
If a critical benefit or pack claim cannot be read at a glance, it does not exist on the digital shelf. (you know that phrase if a tree falls in a forest and no-one is around did it really fall?)
We built RHINO by Neem to test visual contrast and glance readability against how human eyes actually process light and contrast on screens, it uses the APCA algorithm which is a superior contrast test to the old ratio test.
You also get algorithmic validation of Glance Readability from University of Cambridge CamCAST algorithm built into RHINO by Sam Waller and Glyn Roberts

RHINO delivers "glance-readability" scoring.
