I let an auto campaign run way too long once because the blended number looked fine.
That's it, that's the whole confession.
ACoS on the campaign was sitting in a range I was okay with, so every week I'd glance at it and move on to the thing that looked broken.
It was bleeding in a quiet way.
Nothing was flashing at me.
Then I did the thing I tell everybody to do.
Targeting tab, lifetime view, enabled targets, sort for clicks with no orders.
There were the clicks with no orders, plus the other layer underneath, the targets with one or two orders and a 200% ACoS.
They technically convert, so nothing ever flags them.
Are they generating sales?
Yes.
Enough to justify what I was paying for them? No. Not even close.
The average was covering for all of it.
Even with our systems and spot checks, the number that looks acceptable is the one that stops you from looking.
I don't really have a rule for this yet.
