Most sellers review their PPC weekly and their inventory quarterly.

Amazon doesn't respect that schedule.

I joined Sean Stone on Spillover Commerce to talk about something that gets filed as an ops problem and is actually a marketing problem: what your inventory level is quietly doing to your ad performance.

Here's the part that should change how you budget.

The first bill is the obvious one - the sales you didn't make while you were out.

The second one is the expensive one. While you were gone, your rank decayed, your share of the Featured Offer went somewhere else, and your conversion history stopped compounding. When the stock finally lands, you're not resuming. You're rebuilding. And you're rebuilding by buying back, at a higher CPC, the position your inventory used to earn you for free.

Nobody puts that number on an inventory report.

In most companies inventory sits with ops and PPC sits with marketing, and the two look at each other's numbers approximately never. So the ad manager keeps bidding hard into a listing with eleven days of cover left, because nobody told them, because it isn't ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’๐‘–๐‘Ÿ data.

Amazon does not care how you've divided the work internally.

I walked through the data on how low stock tracks with falling sales and conversion rate, and then showed a dashboard that flags:

- products at risk of stocking out

- overstocked products tying up capital

- products coming back into stock

- when PPC should be switched back on

A few standard Amazon reports and a Claude prompt. That's the whole build. It is not a tooling problem, which is what makes it slightly embarrassing that so few accounts have it.

Thanks Sean Stone!! This was one of those conversations that gets more obvious the longer you sit with it.

Your ad account is downstream of your supply chain. Budget like it.
