I caught a 6am flight to London for Scroll Forward , Pretty Little Marketer Sophie Miller first ever conference and it was beyond worth it.
I bought my ticket for two reasons. "Falling" into social media as a career means there's no scheduled L&D, upskilling is a personal decision, and with how fast platforms and algorithms move, it's easy to feel like you're not keeping up. I've been leaning more into the strategic side of social marketing lately, so being in a room full of like-minded people was a no-brainer.
The intentionality of the whole event stood out, from the branding, speakers, content clinics, Q&As during breaks, every part designed so you left with something tangible.
George Sullivan opened the day with an honest account of Sole Supplier's growth, successes and lessons included. His takeaway: "Enrich more than you sell." People are sick of being sold to so give your audience real value and you earn a better shot at their business later.
The panel I was most excited for, mainly because of Mercy Fulani , was Beyond the Brand, a good reminder that "authenticity" has taken a hit online because of a lack of trust, and that you don't just receive the right to an audience. It's HAS to be earned.
I sat in on "Building a Signature Content Style" with Adobe Express ambassador Hannah Walker HTW Creative , who nailed the feeling of a camera roll full of content and still feeling like there's nothing to create almost like having a wardrobe full of clothes and feeling like you’ve nothing to wear.
Faye Martin and Sophie Milham on Marketer chat got realer than I expected, and funnier they said the quiet parts out loud.
And "How to Survive the Scroll" with Chloe Perkins 💘 was a timely look at what being chronically & professionally online can costs you.
I returned to Ireland inspired, and relieved that a whole room of people gets the same frustrations I do and more importantly there are people successfully figuring it out.
