I love this post from Joanna Lambadjieva - I didn’t realize how break-through Meta’s Muse is. But I would add two more questions:
1) Does anyone trust Meta with this much power? There aren’t many tech companies with more trust issues than Meta (except maybe X but that’s another post I’ll probably never put up).
2) As a consumer, is it ok that I’m quietly cheering for something that starts to break down a system that is built to manipulate people into buying something they didn’t otherwise plan to, aka marketing? “the urgency banners, the scarcity cues, the abandoned-cart nudges, the visual merchandising” - and I would add the relentless spam that persists despite feeble legal attempts to protects us from it. Will the average consumer miss any of that?
I’m fond of saying that AI allows marketers to market the way we’ve always wanted to. Drop the keyword stuffing, algo manipulation, coercive behaviors - and focus on context-rich content that helps consumers decide if a product is right for them, rather than tricking or bullying them into it.
