LinkedIn won't show posts outside of your normally talked about topics

I ran a test recently to try and see how the LI algo has changed

This came to mind from a post that Jon Derkits made asking if anyone else felt like reach was weird lately

The experiment ran as such

- Post 4 posts of varying degrees around my typical topics

- Measure the impressions and engagement after 48 hours

- Give a rating based on how closely it follows my content

The results? LinkedIn suppresses content not within your niche now

One post was an Amazon news post no one talked about yet - It generated 32k impressions and over 250 engagements

One was a general education post for Amazon - 5k impressions 80 engagements

One for general brand advice - 2k impressions and 30 engagements

The worst one?

I posted a review for a sales software, something I have never posted before

That post only got 200 impressions meaning it was basically never even shown

The weirdest part is that more than 50% of my total viewership and engagement are regularly people outside of my followers and network regardless of the post

LinkedIn has put everyone into buckets at this point

If you switch fields or want to talk about new things; expect to get basically no visibility
