I'm cancelling Gong after 2 years

Here's why and what I learned

Gong is a great tool

Sold hard

Delivers actionable data almost immediately

During that time we closed over $2m in MRR

Averaged $60-90k/mo with highs of $150k and lows of $45k

I liked a lot of what it offered

- Deal risk flagging on stalled opportunities

- Searchable call library across the team

- Coaching moments surfaced automatically

- Talk ratio and question analysis

- Team visibility out in the open

The first 90-180 days felt like unlocking a new muscle for the sales org

We found that 35-42 questions an hour is highest conversion

Got sales reps to decrease how much of the call they spent talking

I even got one of our reps to increase their monthly avg closes by nearly 50% by working through all of their interaction metrics

After that first wave though, things started to be status quo

Soon enough, we knew exactly what closed deals for our team and could track it with near pinpoint accuracy

The obvious question is why cancel if we now have the data

Because it didn't actually move the needle and where it failed, it failed hard

All the fancy dashboards, nice metrics, and everything presented on a platter doesn't make up for solid sales process

Reasons I'm cancelling

- Coached metrics stagnated in the best ranges

- Great at call analysis, weak at account-level patterns

- Pipeline review stayed too deal-by-deal, never gave the macro view

- Built for SaaS sales cycles, not agency sales cycles like ours

- AI has advanced 10x in that time

- They still have crappy call recording for downloads after constant asking(huge for us with content)

We're moving to a lighter stack

Google Meet for recording and transcription

Claude for call analysis and coaching prompts

HubSpot native tools for pipeline coaching

Manual review of top deals by leadership

Coaching quality doesn't drop with it

Rep experience gets simpler, not more complex

Gong pioneered the category

The category commoditized

That's what happens in SaaS

If you're a Gong customer running the same math, would love to hear what you're moving to
