Savage: Zuck just fired shots at OpenAI & Anthropic over the AI safety debate 😳
And his message was pretty simple:
If your AI isn’t safe, slow down your own AI.
Turns out, Meta delayed Muse for several months to work on safety and security.
“We didn't call for everyone else to do this before we would,” - Zuck added
So while OpenAI & Anthropic are pushing for more industry-wide coordination around AI safety, Zuck’s position is basically:
→ Every lab is responsible for its own models.
→ If safety requires slowing down, slow down.
→ But don’t ask everyone else to stop with you.
More importantly, his broader argument is that safety should become a competitive advantage: people won’t use agents they can’t trust, and companies already face liability when their models cause harm.
And this is a very different philosophy.
↳ OpenAI & Anthropic: the frontier may need collective restraint.
↳ Meta: build safely, take responsibility, keep competing.
Love him or hate him, buck Zuck seems to be the most reasonable AI CEO right now.
