ChatGPT got me a $250 refund from Airbnb.
I barely had to lift a finger.
A few weeks ago, I stayed at an Airbnb in New Hampshire with friends visiting from India.
The stay started off a little strange. The host asked us to use a third-party app, which didn’t work properly. Then we had no hot water.
Neither issue was worth spending a Saturday going back and forth with customer support over, so I just enjoyed my time with friends.
By the time I got home, I’d been too busy to deal with it properly. Then I got an email from Airbnb reminding me that I only had a limited window left to leave a review, which finally pushed me to deal with it.
I explained what had happened to ChatGPT over voice and uploaded a video showing that the third-party app wasn’t working. I expected it to turn that into a complaint email I could send later.
Instead, it opened its cloud browser and asked me to log into Airbnb.
Once I did, it found the stay, opened a support ticket, requested a human representative and started making the case for me. I watched the conversation as it happened and only had to step in when it needed approval before sending something.
ChatGPT even took screenshots from my video and uploaded those for the support agent to review.
A representative eventually called me. I got $250 back.
That was actually impressive.
I’ve used ChatGPT to write emails, summarize documents, and help me think through problems. Now it had taken something off my plate and dealt with it for me.
Funny how general-purpose AI is getting very good at the random tasks you keep putting off.
