The most dangerous part of a 9-to-5 isn't the 9-to-5.

The most dangerous part of a 9-to-5 isn't the 9-to-5.
It's what happens after 5.
The laptop closes.
But your brain doesn't.
The emails stop.
But the mental load doesn't.
Dinner becomes time to answer messages.
The weekend becomes time to catch up.
And slowly, your personal life becomes
the recovery room for your work life.
The short film “FULL TIME” by Jon Ryan
captures this reality with unsettling clarity.
It makes you question something we rarely stop to ask:
Are you actually resting?
Because sleep isn't the only kind of rest you need.
There are 7 different types of rest that help you feel like a whole person again:
💤 1. Physical rest
Your body needs recovery, not just fewer hours at your desk.
Sleep.
Nap.
Stretch.
Walk.
Slow down.
🧠 2. Mental rest
Your brain needs time when it isn't solving the next problem.
Take a walk without your phone.
Write down tomorrow's tasks before bed.
Leave space between meetings when you can.
☮️ 3. Emotional rest
You need places where you don't have to say, “I'm fine.”
Talk honestly with someone you trust.
Let yourself process what you're carrying.
You don't have to be strong every minute.
🥂 4. Social rest
Not every interaction gives you energy.
Notice who leaves you feeling lighter.
Spend more time with people who let you be yourself.
And give yourself permission to step back from draining interactions.
👁️ 5. Sensory rest
Screens. Notifications. Noise. Meetings. Messages.
Your brain is processing all of it.
Turn off unnecessary notifications.
Eat without a screen.
Sit somewhere quiet.
Give your senses fewer things to process.
📖 6. Creative rest
You need time to experience things without turning them into work.
Listen to music.
Read.
Go somewhere beautiful.
Cook.
Draw.
Walk outside.
Do something with absolutely no productivity goal attached.
🧘🏻♀️ 7. Spiritual rest
This isn't necessarily about religion.
It's about reconnecting with meaning, purpose and what matters to you.
Pray.
Reflect.
Journal.
Spend time in nature.
Reconnect with your values.
Because sometimes you're not tired from doing too much.
You're tired from never having space to simply be.
The goal isn't to build a life where you never work hard.
It's to build a life where work doesn't consume every kind of energy you have.
So instead of only asking:
“Did I sleep enough?”
Ask:
“What kind of rest am I actually missing?”
That answer might tell you more about your exhaustion than your sleep tracker ever will.
