Jeff Bezos built one of the most valuable companies in history.

Jeff Bezos built one of the most valuable companies in history.
And he still found time to drop one of the best business frameworks I've ever heard.
It goes like this.
During the brewery boom in America, thousands of brands were fighting to make the best beer.
But here's what most people don't know.
A lot of them also built their own power companies.
They needed electricity to brew. No grid was reliable enough. So they built it themselves.
Every single one of them failed.
The breweries that survived?
They bought power from someone else and put every ounce of energy into making better beer.
Bezos called it: "Focus on what makes your beer better."
I heard this on a call last week and it hit immediately.
Because Amazon sellers do this all the time.
They build custom reporting dashboards... when tools already exist.
They manage their own FBA logistics in-house... when a 3PL does it better.
They try to run PPC manually at scale... when bid management software exists.
They hire generalists and train them from scratch... instead of buying access to someone who already knows.
Every hour you spend building your power company is an hour you're not brewing.
So here's the filter I'd apply to every decision in your Amazon business right now:
Does this make my beer better?
Not — is this useful? Not — could this save money someday?
Does it make the core product, the brand, the customer experience... undeniably better?
If yes, go deep.
If no, buy the power and move on.
The brands that scale past $5M aren't the ones who figured out everything. They're the ones who stopped trying to.
What's one thing in your business you're still building... that you should just be buying?
