🚨 AMAZON REVIEW MANIPULATION WIPES (it's a good thing)🚨
I believe I've isolated a trend from Amazon regarding reviews.
Amazon wipes reviews suspected of manipulation 2-3 times per year. Particularly before and after the holidays. The end of year wipe appears to be the largest.
I think that they way it goes down is that they isolate when they think it started happening, then wipe EVERYTHING from that point forward. I'm unsure if they wipe them to present day.
How have I determined this?
2024 I got 2 reports that Amazon had removed a bunch of reviews from seller accounts. One of the brands reached out to me for help because 12,000 reviews were removed. Interestingly, his rating and sales went up.
2025 it happened again around the same time Sep/Oct, but then a second time in Jan/Feb. Being more established in the review removal space, it happened to around 5 brands, so I started asking questions.
THIS year, I didn't get any contact at the beginning of the year, but over the last few weeks I've gotten reports from several brands in the space of review wipes. One happened to be a client I'd just onboarded a week ago.
From my interviews, I've isolated two companies in the space that do full blown black-hat review manipulation and I think Amazon has them and their buy group pinned. I'll not name names publicly right now because I don't have irrefutable evidence.
I am acutely aware that many (not all) of the brands use these services unaware that there is any issue with this as the companies position this as a compliant service when it is not. Review manipulation is not acceptable. But at the same time, many brands turn to these services as a way to combat fraudulent review attacks because Amazon doesn't have a clear path to resolution on this, not to mention the unwillingness to help and ever HIDING review data from all of us. It's understandable when the difference between a 4.2 and a 4.3 makes or breaks paying the bills, especially when the decline in rating isn't legitimate.
Even me, a professional in the review removal space can only do so much for a brand because Amazon only occasionally plays ball. Despite having and providing all the proof to Amazon of fraud or non-compliance.
For this reason, I have been working hard on developing and testing a full blown advertising system that helps to drive traffic to and rank products, and it starts OFF-Amazon.
Let me know in the comments if you want to know more when I've got some definitive results.
