Nobody abandons a listing because the colors were ugly

Nobody abandons a listing because the colors were ugly

They abandon it because the words never registered

Your brand palette was built for a website

With big type and a patient reader

Amazon is the opposite

Small canvas

Fast thumb

Worst possible lighting

Color has one job in that environment and it is not beauty

It is separation

Value contrast does the heavy lifting not hue

Two colors can be wildly different

Still sit at the same brightness

Which means the text blends the moment it shrinks

That is why teal on gray feels designed on a monitor

Turns to mush in a mobile carousel

Cheapest test in creative

Pull the color out

Grayscale the file

If the headline still jumps

The design works

If it flattens

Hue was carrying the message

Hue is the first thing your shopper loses

Then shrink it before you upload it

Amazon renders your infographic small before anyone taps

If a benefit callout is unreadable at thumbnail size

That image slot is wallpaper

One more thing designers forget

Text over a busy lifestyle photo

needs a solid block behind it

not a drop shadow

Shadows soften

Solid blocks separate

Conversion leaks on legibility long before it leaks on messaging

The claim was strong

Nobody could read it

Design for the cracked screen in a dim room

Every other screen becomes easy

If it's hard to read

It's easy to ignore
