💥 Anthropic just launched its new Claude commerce agent blueprint, designed to help retailers and commerce platforms build their own shopping and merchant agents.
The shopping agent can search a retailer’s catalog, compare products, remember preferences, build a cart, hand it off to checkout and even handle customer service questions, all within the conversation. AND the retailer owns the experience.
Claude provides the intelligence layer, while the agent connects directly to the retailer’s catalog, cart, customer data and existing systems. The retailer keeps the storefront, checkout and customer relationship.
This just made it easier for retailers to compete on the agentic shelf.
I shared recently that I think retailers will all have an agent on their site one day and this makes it much easier to do so.
If that is the case, machine readability becomes even more important for brands.
All retailers might not have agents now, but how long will it take for brands to get their data right and be ready for a world where they do?!
THAT is why it is important to start building and implementing a strategy for the agentic shelf now!
