Amazon confirmed last week that Amit Agarwal will be taking the stage with Mary Beth Westmoreland at Accelerate for a fireside chat, September 22nd 4pm-4:30pm on the future of the marketplace, and presumably his own role in it.
For those tracking executive shifts within Amazon: Amit took over leadership of Worldwide Selling Partner Services once Dharmesh Mehta moved over to advise Andy Jassy in the "shadow" role.
Amit is an Amazon veteran with deep roots running complex international marketplaces, but taking over global seller services at this exact moment comes with a very specific set of operational headaches:
Sellers are stuck in endless loops on basic compliance checks, INFORM Act re-verifications, and Section 3 reviews. Supply chain documentation is often rejected without explanation, and calls to Account Health. Well...
Seller Support remains ill-equipped to handle nuanced catalog, IP, or brand hijacking appeals, forcing routine issues into escalation queues.
Increased friction across inbound placement fees and storage policies push brands to re-evaluate their reliance on FBA, or Amazon itself.
Scrutiny around platform power and fair competition is at an all-time high now. You heard about the FTC/ 22 state attorneys general filing suit?
Fireside chats at Accelerate are usually polished, scripted and optimistic. The real test for Amit’s leadership won't be high-level keynote promises about "helping sellers operate with ease."
With inconsistent policy enforcement trends (some banned for life for breaking behavioral rules, others getting slaps on the wrist) and apparent broken internal enforcement workflows, we'd like to believe he can restore human sanity to Account Health and investigator appeal reviews!
If you're denied, why is the true reason for the denial such a secret?
If you're hearing contradictory guidance from different people on the same teams, why? Can't that be "trained out" of the system somehow?
If escalations to execs are the main pathways to "get things done" internally or appeals-wise, then why the insistence on Seller Central?
On your side: If you had five minutes to put one question directly to Amit at an Executive Seller Summit, what would it be? Comment, or DM me.
