5 questions I'd ask if I wanted to understand whether you're growing profitably on Amazon.

1. What did your margin do last time sales grew 20%+? If margin declines every time you drive volume, we can clearly see the cost of growth.

2. When sales and margin conflicted in your last trading meeting, which one won? This one tells me where the commercial decision making sits.

3. Can you name the three ASINs driving the most profitable growth and the three that are growing at a loss? If the answer to the first part is easy but you have no idea on the second part, your range strategy is structured for sales, not margin.

4. What funding did you commit to hit last year's sales target and did the growth pay for it? You might know the commitment value, but I bet you haven't closed the loop on whether it was worth it.

5. If your VM asked for 15% growth next year, could you show them which part of the catalogue delivers that profitably and which part doesn't? This is a preparation question..vendors who can answer this normally keep margin, vendors who can't just say yes and lose it.

You don't have to choose between growth and margin, but you should be measuring both at the same time.

Which of those five would your team struggle with most?
