Your next customer might be an algorithm.
In Amazon's latest earnings call, Andy Jassy shared numbers on Stores growth:
• Millions of new products added to selection, including over 700,000 from notable brands.
• Amazon Haul selection grew almost 20x since launch, now over six million items under $10.
• Record delivery speeds in the first half of the year, with same-day and overnight deliveries up over 40%.
• Alexa for Shopping used by over 350 million customers in the past 12 months, with active users nearly doubling in Q2.
The easy read on this is that more AI shopping tools mean more visibility for every ASIN in the catalog, but that is not how AI selects products.
Because Alexa for Shopping and Amazon Lens work differently than a regular shopper scrolling through search results, they look at the information stored behind the listing, things like GTIN codes and Flat File data that tells Amazon exactly what your product is so they can use it to connect that with the customer's intent.
So when Auto Buy or Lens matches a photo or a voice request to a product, it is scoring structured fields against a query
Meaning that an ASIN with complete, accurate backend attributes gets matched faster and more precisely, while an ASIN with a broken GTIN mapping or inconsistent Flat File data becomes harder for the system to place with confidence, regardless of how the front-end listing looks.
This changes the order of operations for catalog work.
Before adjusting titles, images, or copy, the backend data has to be verified first. GTIN mappings need to be correct, or variation structures need to be clean, same way as flat File uploads need to reflect the current, accurate state of the catalog because AI shopping tools reward accuracy at the data layer before they ever reach the front end.
