The share settings on your AI chats are more public than you may think.
I spent under five minutes testing that this weekend and found an entire medical group's staff rotation planning for the year, full names and full calendar, sitting where anyone could read it.
Here's what's happening: Anthropic says these are artifacts people created and then shared publicly using "anyone with the link." Private chats are not part of this. The gap is that a lot of folks read that setting as "send this to my coworker" when it functions closer to "publish this", so it can be surfaced in a plain search result on Google or Bing for someone who was never handed the link at all.
The medical group was not the only one I saw. I also found a draft of a financial planning pitch deck with private information throughout it. Decks were the richest source by far, probably because a slide is where people dump the real numbers and the real client names before anyone cleans it up.
(Some of what I found was clearly meant to be public. A New York law firm had a spousal and child support calculator up with contact info, which reads like a lead magnet. I emailed them anyway.)
All of this took me under 5 minutes to find.
Great reminder to all of us to be more vigilant of multiplayer mode in AI and to maybe ask Codex or Claude to go through all of your google docs and sheets and drives and see what is set to 'anyone with the link'
Stay safe!
