most online communities are dead within a month 🥱

everyone joins, nobody posts, it turns into another muted tab - Ive been in loads of them.

when i built our Pretty Little Marketer membership, the thing I cared about most wasn't the resources or the sessions...

it was whether people would actually talk to each other.

two years in, here's what makes the difference, in case you're ever building one yourself:

→ you have to make it safe to not know things: so much of our club is people asking the questions they'd never post publicly, because the second one person admits they're not sure about something, it turns out loads of people were wondering the same thing. so every other week we bring an expert into our slack for the whole day, and members get to ask them anything, no question too big and no question too small!

→ you have to listen: the best stuff we've built came straight from what members told us they needed. AI is a big one right now, everyone feels like they should already get it, so we're spending all of August properly teaching it (more on that tomorrow hehe).

→ and you have to make it smaller, not just bigger: we split people into groups by niche so a freelancer and a b2b marketer aren't lost in the same giant room.

as it happens, doors to the club are open for the first time since May and the last time until October so if you want to see it from the inside, now is your chance: https://lnkd.in/dYUGgttV
