Amazon added podcasts to policy pages? like why?
The other day I was looking something up on Seller Central, a policy page, nothing exciting, and right there on the page was an AI generated podcast about it. Not sure how long this has been live, but it caught me off guard.
And honestly, I just don't get who it's for.
There's actually a study from Edison Research where they had over a thousand people listen to a sci fi thriller, half with a human narrator, half with an AI multi cast version.
People couldn't really tell the difference, and a lot of them said they'd be way more likely to listen to an AI narrated audiobook after hearing it.
That makes sense to me. Fiction, character voices, an actual story, that's a format built for audio.
Same logic applies to something like a brand story or a product journey.
You're not trying to extract instructions, you're trying to feel something or stay entertained while you drive or fold laundry.
A policy page is the opposite of that.
Unless you are the kind of person who can absorb a compliance policy while doing three other things at once, how much are you actually retaining from listening instead of reading?
The logic I give to Amazon is that since they track how many sellers finish reading policy pages, and how many end up opening a support case because they didn't, they made audio to raise the odds someone gets through the page instead of bailing halfway and messaging support.
I want your take on this one. Are you seeing this show up consistently across policy pages, or only in specific categories?
If this made you think twice about it, like.
