ᴀᴍᴀᴢᴏɴ ᴊᴜꜱᴛ ᴄʜᴀɴɢᴇᴅ ᴏɴᴇ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ʙɪɢɢᴇꜱᴛ ʀᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ ʟᴇᴠᴇʀꜱ ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘʟᴀᴛꜰᴏʀᴍ— here's what new sellers need to know before they launch.
Starting July 27, 2026, Amazon is capping product titles at 75 characters, down from 200. In its place, there's a new searchable "Item Highlights" field — 125 characters for materials, use cases, and comparison terms, shown in search results and on the detail page.
If your title isn't compliant by then, Amazon's AI rewrites it for you. Brand Registry owners get a 14-day review window to catch it. Everyone else doesn't — the rewrite just happens.
Why this matters if you're new to Amazon or considering it as your next storefront:
Titles are one of the biggest ranking levers on Amazon. Get the structure wrong on your very first listing, and you're starting behind before you've made a single sale. Amazon's algorithm reads the main title for ranking credit — every keyword route your customers actually search needs to be represented there, in the highlights field, or in your bullets. Miss that balance, and you can quietly stop showing up for searches you'd otherwise win.
This is also exactly the kind of change that makes "just watch a YouTube video and figure it out" a risky way to learn Amazon. The platform shifts constantly — what worked even a year ago isn't automatically what works now. And for a first-time seller, one mistake at launch (a de-indexed listing, a missed keyword, a rewritten title with no context) can be expensive to recover from.
The good news: this kind of update creates real opportunity. Unprepared sellers — including big brands relying on Amazon's defaults — will absorb the ranking hit. Sellers who launch with the right structure from day one won't.
