One of the most misleading sentences in account management is:

“Sales are up, so everything looks good.”

Sales being up only tells you the final number increased.

It does not tell you whether every product line contributed.

It does not tell you whether one bestseller carried the entire account.

And it does not tell you whether weaker products are quietly losing momentum.

This is especially dangerous in larger catalogs.

The stronger products can hide problems for months.

By the time the decline reaches the account level, you are already reacting late.

That is why every account should be reviewed in layers.

Start with total sales.

Then go down to product lines.

Then go down to individual products.

The deeper you go, the clearer the decisions become.

Top-line numbers are useful for direction.

Product-level numbers are where the actual strategy lives.
