Where do you start to see more of an impact on the SQP funnel by Rufus/Alexa? Where you would expect it: After landing on the product page.
In the beginning there was not much of a change when Rufus first came on. Conversion rate actually was consistently higher than previous year.
But toward the end of last year you started to see a decrease in CVR both MoM and YoY for the first time. This year, two of the months were the lowest conversion rates in the last 2.5 years.
We cannot say for certain this is due to Rufus/Alexa however it would be logical to say that as more engage with Alexa, this has affected the conversion rate since once you start interacting there, the SQP funnel stops recording. So it seems like there were page views without conversion.
Still too early to say for sure, especially since May had the highest conversion rate on record, but the indications are there.
What should this data make you do? Well if you havent been optimizing for Alexa yet, you need to start. It seems like people landing on the product page might be the most likely to interact with Alexa during the traditional search funnel.
If your listings can't answer the questions they ask Alexa, then you might lose the sale. Another common thing people do is check price history with Alexa.
If you are one of those sellers who do "fake sales" by jacking up the price temporarily just to show an inflated discount, Alexa will expose you.
