There are only two kinds of people.
The ones who return the shopping cart.
And the ones who don’t.
It has nothing to do with the cart.
It’s a small decision that reveals character.
The people who return it also refill the coffee pot.
Pick up after their dog.
Hold the door.
Help a teammate when the deadline is tight.
They leave things better than they found them.
The people who don’t usually have the opposite mindset.
They take care of their part and assume someone else will handle the rest.
That’s the kind of behavior that follows people into every workplace.
You can teach skills.
You rarely teach character.
If I only had one interview question, I’d skip the question and watch what they do with the shopping cart.
