We had 15 Amazon interviews final stage last week scheduled and not all of them went that well.

They didn't go badly because the candidate lacked the skill.

They went badly because during that one particular moment within the interview they didn't have the clarity to nail the answer on the first occasion.

And the person doing the interview didn't then follow up to pull back a few more layers in order to find out the answer they were looking for or to get the information they were looking for.

So even though the candidate could provide the right answer that the client was looking for, there was a mismatch and the client leaves the call thinking that the person is not a very good fit.

When we know that the person is a good fit and can answer all these questions with great ease and has the ability to do the job.

But the question was too short-lived. There wasn't enough scrambling around to get to where you wanted to go. I think that is something we're learning a lot about interviews is It can be massively valuable to both parties in the interview if you understand the best practice of what a good interview is.

I don't believe interview should be a series of trip questions designed to trip up the candidate. It should be an exercise to find out if they do have the skills that you're looking for. And just because they don't mention them in the first answer they give you doesn't mean they don't have them.

It can often just mean they've misinterpreted what you were actually asking for with your question.
