🇺🇸 The "Made in USA" flag won this main image split test. Then one shopper ranked it dead last and called it "try hard."
Fitting thing to think about the day before July 4th: the flag on your listing is doing something very different from what most brands assume.
Here's what it's actually doing, and where it backfires:
We ran a five-way main image test, then ran it again one a 3 way poll:
→ Portable seat cushion, 30 US Amazon Prime shoppers
→ One image took 63% of first-choice votes (19 of 30)
→ A five-way test almost never breaks that hard
The winning image had one thing the others didn't
→ A small "US OWNED" flag badge in the top corner
→ Roughly a third of the panel brought it up on their own
→ Nobody prompted them. They just kept circling back to it.
But not one of them mentioned patriotism
→ They talked about trust, quality, and safety
→ "US owned... signals quality and safety," one wrote
→ The flag is a fast read on "is a real company behind this?"
The tripwire: quiet reads as trust, loud reads as suspicion
→ A small corner badge tells shoppers a real brand stands behind this
→ A hammered-in flag reads as a company trying too hard
→ The us-versus-them version ("not Chinese ingredients") pushed real buyers away
So treat it as a trust cue, not a flag
→ Small, integrated with your weight badge, certifications, the real proof
→ Contrast on quality and standards, never on nationality
→ Test flag-on vs flag-off and watch the comments for "insincere"
REMEMBER: On Amazon a shopper is making a snap call with almost no information. They can't touch the product or tell a real brand from a drop-shipper, so they hunt for shortcuts that answer "can I trust this?" without making them read.
The flag badge is a firm trust signal. It tells you nothing factual, but it registers in half a second as "this one's probably legit."
Framed as a quality signal, "Made in USA" wins. The moment it turns into a jab at another country, it starts pushing real buyers away.
Also note, the words on the badge are identical. The only thing that changed is the framing around them.
