I say no to half the brands that ask me to launch them on TikTok Shop. There are 5 criteria I check before I'll say yes:

1. Sampling capacity

You have to be able to do at least 300 to 500 samples a month. If you can't, it's not going to work.

This disqualifies most brands before they launch. You can't find the creator who breaks your product without volume.

2. Willingness to lose money in-channel

TikTok Shop is an upper funnel channel. You're buying discovery at a fraction of the cost of Meta. The revenue shows up on Amazon later, not in your TikTok P&L.

If you expect to see profit immediately, you'll end up to killing the channel before it pays back.

3. Price point

TikTok works on a $16 to $40 spontaneous purchase. Outside that window, the channel won't move it.

4. Category fit

Clothing and beauty work really, really well. Technology, not as much.

I have beauty clients hitting 7x ROAS and supplement clients running at 1x. The ROAS range is wide, and category is the biggest predictor of where you land in it.

5. QVC-style virality

The product has to resonate in a QVC-style live shopping environment. Something exciting that could go viral.

If a creator can't get excited about your product on camera, you'll fail.

If your product fails one of these gates, fix it before you spend a dollar on TikTok Shop.
