Fable, the indomitable model from Anthropic, is coming back.

For context: Fable 5 launched June 9, and by June 12 the U.S. Commerce Department directed Anthropic to suspend access under export controls - specifically for any foreign national. Because Anthropic couldn't reliably segment users by nationality in real time, it pulled Fable 5 (and Mythos 5) fully offline for everyone to stay compliant. Fable 5 is returning globally today, July 1, after those restrictions were lifted (Mythos was also cleared but only for a set of approved U.S. organizations), with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick citing Anthropic's coordination with officials on the security questions behind the pause.

These last few weeks have been a great reminder that: models can be removed at any time, you should have fallback plans (including open source), testing models quickly is imperative to any company strategy, and you should have new test tasks ready to rock when new models arrive.
