You'll want to save this one: We looked at 900+ PickFu polls to find which images won decisively across main images, product images & A+ content.
Spoiler: Amazon images that win by a WIDE margin are not always the most beautiful ones.
Not the close polls showing a 55–45 splits. I'm talking about the 70% / 30% landslide type results.
The pattern was consistent across every category.
The widest-margin winners were almost never optimized for one shopper type.
They were designed for several modes or what I like to call "moments".
There are 6 distinct shopping modes on Amazon.
Here are 3:
⚡ The Analyst: needs specific information before committing
⚡ The Looker: decides on aesthetics before reading a single word
⚡ The Trust Seeker: needs proof from someone other than the seller
Images that LOST close polls were usually beautifully optimized for just one.
→ Looker-only: gorgeous, emotional, tells you nothing specific
→ Analyst-only: packed with callouts, zero visual warmth
→ Shoppers in the other modes find their questions unanswered and scroll
The fix isn't complicated.
→ Take your Analyst image with every callout answered
→ Add a warm color palette (Looker filter cleared)
→ Add one certification badge in the corner (Trust Seeker covered)
We did this for a home good brand recently. Their PickFu poll earned 70% of the vote and their organic Amazon sales increased by 101%.
Remember this: Targeting 1 of the modes above -> gets close polls.
Designing for 3+ modes, wins decisively. Almost every time.
