I pulled 47 PickFu main image polls from our database and found a pattern I wasn't expecting…
The winning images across nail treatments, collagen masks, and pet carriers had something in common.
And it had nothing to do with how polished the image looked.
In nail treatments, the image showing a real hand with healthy nails beat four cleaner options.
In collagen masks, the image showing the actual mask out of its packaging with sliced aloe won 53% of the vote.
In pet carriers, images with a puppy's head poking out dominated. (50% of shoppers ranked a puppy-in-use image first; the plain carrier shot got 10%.)
The pattern: shoppers clicked when the image answered "what does using this actually look like?" before they had to ask.
The clean isolated shots didn't win. The lifestyle images didn't always win either. But the image that showed the product in real use? That won every time.
I've been breaking down these exact tests for 11K subscribers inside Design Proof, my paid Substack.
The actual poll data, the before/afters, and what image direction came out of each one.
If you want the surface-level insight, you just got it.
If you want the receipts, Design Proof is where they live.
