10 things I've learned managing Amazon vendor accounts over 16+ years.
1️⃣Nail the basics first.
Price, range, content, promotion. It’s easy to get distracted by the newest shiny tactic but that’s only safe once the basics are locked down.
2️⃣Watch organic vs paid sales closely. If paid is over 30% of revenue, you’re paying to win. That might not be profitable long term.
3️⃣Build an Amazon first narrative in your business. What works on Amazon will usually work off it too.
4️⃣If something works on Amazon, make it a channel exclusive. Don’t give control to everyone else.
5️⃣Focus on margin. Always. Yours and Amazon’s.
6️⃣The 80/20 rule still holds. Less is more on Amazon..it was true 10 years ago and it’s true now.
7️⃣Never spend money on a poorly optimised product. You cannot outspend a bad PDP.
8️⃣If you can’t measure it, don’t do it.
9️⃣Get comfortable with Amazon’s metrics...how they’re calculated, and how you actually influence them.
🔟Learn the acronyms. Amazon loves a new one. When it shows up, find out exactly what it means before you nod along in the meeting.
