This week we hosted a webinar on ChatGPT Ads with Nathan Lam from OpenAI and Grace Mante from Kepler and our own expert Jocelyn Jeffries at Pacvue to discuss what we're seeing from some of the first live campaigns running inside ChatGPT.
Here's an interesting stat to start: 20% of ChatGPT conversations show shopping intent.
What's even more interesting is where those conversations happen:
• 31% product discovery
• 22% product comparison
• 23% single-product evaluation
• 13% purchase stage
• 16% post-purchase
For years, marketers have organized around a funnel. Awareness at the top. Conversion at the bottom.
But in ChatGPT, discovery, evaluation, comparison, and purchase intent can happen in the same conversation.
We're seeing this firsthand. In one campaign with Kepler, a condition-specific product category the brand had never prioritized outperformed its top-selling product line in click-through rate. The demand already existed. The brand simply wasn't showing up in those conversations.
The question isn't whether a dollar is "brand" or "performance." The question is whether it influences a commerce outcome.
As AI becomes a shopping destination, the winners won't just optimize for conversion. They'll understand and influence the entire decision journey happening inside a single conversation.
We are sitting on a new tipping point in our industry and it's exciting to be part of the conversation to bring you the very first insights.
