Treating your keywords as your search terms is costing you visibility.

To put this in perspective, Alexa for shopping and all Amazon search systems pull from the same data in your listing.

That data/content determines whether your product surfaces, whether it ranks, and whether it gets promoted through Amazon's own channels, all live inside your catalog content.

So it is important to know that:

🔵 A keyword is what you place in your listing, title, bullet points, and backend search term fields.

It is the signal you send to Amazon's index.

🔵 A search term, on the other hand, is what a customer types into the search bar, or says out loud to Alexa. It is demand behavior, not your input.

The system's job is to match those two things.

When your keywords do not reflect the actual language your customers use when searching, the match rate drops.

Lower match rate means lower impressions.

Lower impressions means Amazon's algorithm has less data to decide whether your ASIN deserves promotion.

Here is where the system behavior matters: Amazon does not just index your listing, it scores the relevance of your catalog content against real search traffic, so if your keywords are too broad, too narrow, or structured around how you describe the product instead of how buyers search for it, the algorithm deprioritizes your ASIN in favor of listings with higher click share and conversion share, data you can find in Brand Analytics under the Search Query Performance report.

Now, the thing is that Alexa adds another layer. When a shopper asks Alexa to add something to their cart or reorder a product, the voice query is matched to listings with clean, structured, indexed content.

Listings with keyword misalignment rarely surface in the Alexa chat results.

The correction here is not to add more keywords, instead it is to close the gap between your keyword inputs and actual search term data.
