Things I hear from Amazon vendors.
"We're investing in growth."
No. You're spending money on discounting and hoping volume fixes the margin problem.
Investing implies a return. Show me the numbers.
"Amazon are requesting a cost price reduction."
When don't they?
The question was never whether they're asking.
It's whether you know why and what happens to your margin if you say yes.
(Which you shouldn't.)
"The last promo performed really well."
Did it though?
For who....you or Amazon?
Did it drive incremental volume or just pull forward sales you would have had anyway at full margin?
Did your daily rate of sale increase post promo?
Did you actually make money on it.. after Coop, after the discount, after the uplift.
Performing well and being profitable are not the same thing.
This is the version of Amazon account management that quietly eats margin while everyone in the room nods along.
What would you add to the list?
