Amazon just announced Prime Day dates.
For the first time in years, Prime Day is returning to June and will run June 23 through June 26. As Amazon expands the event and shifts it earlier on the calendar, it’s creating its own retail seasons rather than relying on traditional ones.
Most sellers will focus on the date.
I’m paying attention to the trend.
Amazon continues to stretch Prime Day into a larger retail event while moving key shopping moments across the calendar. Prime Day started as a two day sale. Now it’s four days. This year it’s also earlier.
That tells me Amazon is becoming less dependent on traditional retail seasons and more focused on creating its own.
The winners won’t be the brands with the biggest discounts.
The winners will be the brands that understand what these events are designed to do:
• Acquire new customers
• Increase purchase frequency
• Capture market share from competitors
• Generate data that can be leveraged long after the sale ends
Too many brands treat Prime Day as a revenue event.
The strongest operators treat it as a customer acquisition event.
Revenue shows up in June.
The real value often shows up in July, August, and September through repeat purchases, Subscribe & Save enrollments, remarketing audiences, and stronger organic rankings.
Amazon keeps expanding the size and influence of these retail moments.
The question is whether brands are expanding their thinking along with it.
