Most Amazon sellers think they're competing against other brands.
In reality, they're competing against better systems.
One of the most interesting things we've seen by studying ecommerce trends globally is that China experienced this exact evolution years before Amazon reached its current stage.
As platforms matured, seller consolidation increased.
Larger operators gained advantages through:
• better inventory planning
• stronger cash flow
• more efficient advertising
• better data visibility
• stronger operational systems
The result wasn't necessarily that smaller sellers disappeared.
The result was that inefficiency became much more expensive.
That's exactly what we're seeing on Amazon today.
Margins are tighter.
Advertising costs are higher.
Inventory mistakes are more costly.
Poor keyword targeting gets punished faster.
The sellers winning today aren't always the largest sellers.
They're the sellers making the fewest mistakes.
That's why I believe data and operational efficiency have become the biggest competitive advantages available to Amazon brands.
The future belongs to sellers who make decisions faster and more accurately than their competitors.
Curious what you think:
Is Amazon becoming a scale game, or do smaller sellers still have an edge if they leverage the right systems?
