Most Amazon sellers still think ecommerce is about rankings, keywords, and PPC.

Most Amazon sellers still think ecommerce is about rankings, keywords, and PPC.

Most TikTok creators still think it’s about views.

The future is probably the combination of both.

Amazon has something incredibly valuable:

buyer trust and predictable search behavior.

TikTok has something equally valuable:

massive creator attention and entertainment-driven discovery.

When I look at ecommerce trends, I often study China because historically they’ve been years ahead of the US in commerce innovation.

One of the biggest trends there has been live selling.

Not influencers casually posting products…

full-scale live commerce ecosystems where entertainment and shopping became the same experience.

We’re now seeing the early stages of that shift happen in the US.

And I think the brands that win over the next 5 years will understand how to combine:

• creator-driven attention

• live commerce

• Amazon conversion systems

• and data-driven product positioning

The sellers relying only on traditional ads are going to struggle more and more as attention shifts toward creators and personalities people already trust.

At the same time, TikTok Shop is still far less predictable than Amazon because Amazon is fundamentally a search engine marketplace.

On Amazon:

we know search volume, ranking positions, conversion rates, indexing, and buyer intent.

TikTok Shop still relies heavily on virality and discovery.

That’s why I think creators who learn operational ecommerce systems early are massively ahead of the curve right now.

Curious what others think:

Will live selling become a dominant buying behavior in the US over the next few years?
